Build a Snowman Worksheets

Description

This a class set of Phonics Snowmen for your literacy centers.

This set includes 90 printable one-page crafts featuring snowmen and CVC, CVCe, and CCVC/CVCC pictures. Students will color, cut, and glue the snowballs to build a decodable short vowel words (CVC, CCVC, and CVCC) and long vowel words (CVCe).

My students (first grade, Special Education) were able to complete these printable crafts independently in our word work (Daily 5) literacy center.

There are 90 different words for your students to build. My small groups crafted a set of the words and then I sent the extra pages home for holiday break.

  • Short Vowel words include CVC and CCVC/CVCC (words with initial/final blends and digraphs).
  • Long vowels included: Long A (a_e), Long I (i_e), Long O (o_e), and Long U (u_e).

Optional: print these pages on colored cardstock and create a hands-on center that can be used every December, January…all winter long.

Differentiation made easy…students name the picture and match the initial, medial, or final sound, or build the entire word!

Build-a-Snowman Word Work – Friendly Feedback

  • “My kids did this activity on the day before Winter Break. They really enjoyed it, and it made for a nice display inside the classroom. I loved the differentiation because I was able to give CVC words to my struggling readers and CVCe words to my above level readers.”
  • Perfect for the last 9 days of school before break and love the differentiation. I plan to use the pictures without letters on them and have students write the words.
