Students will gain fine motor confidence while working in this literacy center focused on “chaining” words with related sounds.
This year I have been working with our occupational therapist during our Guided Reading block to support our first graders. I have learned so much about turning our literacy word work into developmentally appropriate activities! It has had a tremendously positive impact on my students' progress in both academics and fine motor, but don't tell them…they are too busy “playing!”
This CVC center is actually 3 activities in one!
Students can chain four related words by switching one sound (i.e.: pin-pig-big-bag) using pocket chart “chains.”
The same pictures are included individually to use with math manipulative linking chains. A true hands-on experience!
The last activity includes recording pages and a class book cover, as well 60 suggested chains using 3 and 4 CVC words.
There are 70 CVC picture and text cards included that can be used for chaining and SO much more (rhyming, matching text to picture, matching final sounds)!
These chaining words match perfectly with Unit One of CKLA Skills (first grade) and any literacy program focused on CVC words.
