This visual discrimination center combines matching shadows with fine motor development.

This past year I have been working with our occupational therapist during our Guided Reading block to support our first graders. I have learned so much about turning our literacy word work into developmentally appropriate activities! It has had a tremendously positive impact on my students' progress in both academics and fine motor, but don't tell them…they are too busy “playing.”

There are two different sets included:

• 50 “Clip Cards” to identify the matching shadow picture
• 50 Matching Pairs with traceable words (add a dry erase marker)

I print the sets once and then divide them into several individual literacy centers. They fit perfectly in a small plastic bag or 4 x 6″ plastic photo case.

Optional: add additional fine motor components by using math linking chains, clothespins, and markers.
